McCone Sod House
See the prairie as it was years ago! This exhibit features 2 houses: a dug out and a "soddy" (sod house). Plus, 10 acres of restored prairie grasses and wildflowers. You may even wish to spend a night at the sod house Bed & Breakfast!

Jeffers Petroglyphs

Over 2,000 ancient American Indian carvings on huge slabs of red quartzite rock on a highland prairie. New exhibit complex, daily educational programs and interpreters on site. Carvings are best seen at dusk.

Open 7 days a week Memorial Day to Labor Day. Open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays May 1 to September 30. Admission: adults $4, seniors $3, children $2.

Mound Creek County Park
This park features a man-made lake that offers fishing, boating and a beach area for swimming. Park also includes sand volleyball, picnic area, hiking trails and a new Frisbee course. Park is open from 8 am to sunset each day.
Located 9 miles south of Springfield on County Road 5, then 6 miles west on County Road 17 and 1 mile north on gravel road.
Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum and Pageant, at Walnut Grove, MN

Laura Ingalls Wilder is known for her series of famous children's books. You may also be familiar with the TV series about young Laura's life, Little House on the Prairie.
You can visit this town where Laura and her family lived, and see items from prairie life at the museum. The people of Walnut Grove present an annual outdoor pageant about the Ingalls family and their life in this area. The pageant is the last 3 weekends in July.

Walnut Grove is 17 miles west of Springfield, on Highway 14 - the Laura Ingalls Wilder Historic Highway.
Gilfillan Estate
This is a restored, historic farm estate, including a large, elaborate farm house.
The home is open for tours June to Labor Day, Saturday & Sunday 1:00 pm to 4:30 PM
This complex is also host to Farmfest, a large outdoor show with entertainment, food, displays of seed and test plots, feed, farm implements, and more.

Located north of Springfield, take County Road 13 to Highway 67, then west for 1 mile.
Lower Sioux Agency & Historic Site
Interpretive center, trails and 1861 warehouse tells the story of the Dakota people and 1850's government agency.
From Springfield travel north on County Road 13 and east on Redwood County Road 2.
