UNION HALL
This building dates back to 1873 when it was built as Arbieter Hall by a local union. The basement was used as a saloon and cafÈ, the main floor for union meetings, and the second floor for dances.
Sold in 1878 and again in 1889, it continued to be to be known as Union Hall. A tradition of providing entertainment and amusement for local residents continued. Dances, operas, political meetings, theatricals, public meetings, etc. were held here.
The City Band and local National Guard Unit with its regiment band headquartered here in the early 1900's.
The first moving picture in New Ulm, shown with a kinescope, was seen here in 1903.
Thereafter, the structure housed an automobile dealership, a garage and gas station, and a photography studio.
