Alex Guggisberg , 83, of Gibbon died Saturday, January 1, 2005, at the Hutchinson Hospital in Hutchinson.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 5, at the St. Willibrord's Catholic Church in Gibbon with Father Ron Huberty presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Tuesday and will continue from 7:30 until 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Gibbon. The St. Willibrord's Catholic Aid Society will pray the rosary at 6:30 p.m., and there will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. both Tuesday at the funeral home.
Alex is survived by his wife, Agnes, of Gibbon; daughters and sons-in-law, Pauline and Lynn Flygare of Courtland and Christine and Jack Rossow of Duluth; sons and daughters-in-law, Pat and Lynn Guggisberg and Kenneth Guggisberg all of Gibbon, Kevin and Gail Guggisberg of New Ulm, William and Mary Guggisberg of Freeborn and Jon and Cathy Guggisberg of Jacksonville, Florida; eighteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Bernice Pfeffer, a resident of the Divine Providence Home in Sleepy Eye; sisters-in-law, Marion Wendland, Cecelia Beranek, and Maggie Muehlbauer all of New Ulm, and by a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Gertie and LeRoy Rathmann of New Ulm.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Chris, on June 20, 2004; twin grandsons, Brian and Scott Guggisberg; sisters, Gertrude Donahue, Sally Warner, and Mildred Woratschka; and by brothers, Clarence Guggisberg and Leon Guggisberg.
Alex Henry Guggisberg, the son of William and Rose (Hillesheim) Guggisberg, was born on October 20, 1921 in Bismarck Township, Sibley County. He attended country school in Bismarck Township. On October 15, 1945 Alex was united in marriage to Agnes Hanslick at the St. George Catholic Church in St. George. After marriage they farmed for 35 years in Bismarck Township, Sibley County before retiring in 1981 and moving into Gibbon. While farming Alex also worked at the Hauser Lumber Company in Gibbon for 17 years.
Alex was a member of the St. Willibrord's Catholic Church in Gibbon where he had also served on the Building Committee and was a member of the St. Willibrord's Catholic Aid Society. He was a past member of the Board of Directors of Minnesota Valley Funeral Homes, the St. Willibrord's Cemetery Board, the Gibbon Co-Op Creamery Board, the Winthrop Mid-American Dairy Association Board and the Gibbon Lions Club.
