Marie Guggisberg, 84 of Fairfax, died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001, at the Fairfax Community Home.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Fairfax with burial in the church cemetery in Cairo Twp., Renville Co.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Fairfax and will continue Saturday from 9-10:30 a.m. at the church. There will be a VFW Ladies' Auxiliary service at 6 p.m., a rosary service at 6:30 p.m., and parish prayer service at 7 p.m. on Friday night at the church. The Hauser-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Fairfax is handling the arrangements.
Marie is survived by her sons, Tom Guggisberg and his wife, Kay of Hill City, S.D., Steve Guggisberg and his wife, Evelyn of Starbuck, Jack Guggisberg and his wife, Sheri of Burnsville, Mark Guggisberg and his wife, Susan of Hartley, Iowa, Dave Guggisberg and his special friend, Sue of Fairfax, and Jerry Guggisberg of Fairfax; daughters, Theresa Zeug and her husband, Bernie of Redwood Falls, Janice Friedrichs and her husband, Mike of Golden, Colo. Rose Hillesheim and her husband, Gary of Sleepy Eye, Ruth Beesch and her husband, Dr, Karl of Marshall, Mary Holub and her husband, Rick of New Brighton; a daughter-in-law, Karen Guggisberg of Fairfax; 43 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a sister. Cecilia Taughtes and her husband, John of Gibbon, a brother, Hilary Gitter of the Franklin Healthcare Center and his wife, Marie of Sleepy Eye; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Agnes Gitter of St. George, Alex Guggisberg and his wife, Agnes of Gibbon, Bernice Pfeffer of Fairfax, Marion Wendland of New Ulm, Sally Warner and her husband, Lloyd of Australia and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence on Oct. 16, 1981, a baby in infancy; a son, Joseph in June of 1980; three brothers, four sisters, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Marie (Gitter) Guggisberg was born Aug. 25, 1917, in West Newton Township, Nicollet County, to Joseph and Mary (Schwab) Gitter. She was baptized as an infant and confirmed as a youth at St. George's Catholic Church. Marie married Clarence H. Guggisberg on June 18, 1940 at St. George's Catholic Church. The couple farmed in Cairo Twp., Renville Co. Clarence died on Oct. 16, 1981. Marie continued living on their farm site until she moved into Fairfax in 1993. She entered the Fairfax Community Home on Oct. 25, 1997.
Marie was a member of St, Andrew's Catholic Church in Fairfax, where she was active with the Catholic Aid Association and the Christian Mothers' Society, She was also a member of the Fairfax VFW Ladies' Auxiliary.
