Edwin O. Helget, 83, of Sleepy Eye, died on Friday, September 5, 2003 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.

Visitation will be at Sturm Funeral Home on Sunday, September 7, 2003 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Monday from 7:30 AM to 9:30 AM with a rosary at 4:30 PM and a prayer service at 7 PM, both Sunday at the funeral home. Service will be held at Church of the Japanese Martyrs on Monday, September 8, 2003 at 10:30 AM. The Clergy will be Father Todd Petersen. Interment will be at the Church of the Japanese Martyrs Cemetery.

Edwin was born on October 13, 1919 in Stark Township, Brown County, MN, the son of Louis & Mary (Haala) Helget. He married Alice M. Braulick on October 9, 1940 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. Edwin farmed in Leavenworth Township and worked at Ochs Brick and Tile in Springfield. He enjoyed listening to old time music, our family gatherings and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed listening to his grandchildren's sporting events on the radio and looked forward to spending his afternoons at Dan's Bakery.

Edwin is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Eldon & Linda of Jordan, Myron "Whitey", Wesley & Laurie, Dan & Sue, Bobby & Lori, all of Sleepy Eye, Harlan & Nita of Darfur, Lowell & Connie of Springfield, Brian & Sherry of Knoxville, TN,daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy & Don Ludewig, LaNette & Bill Hanson, Jan & Jon Schauman, Betsy & Randy Jensen, all of Sleepy Eye, Luella & Tom Ricke of Marshall, Donna Rae & Wallace Beranek of Gibbon, Rolene & Mark Fromm of Mankato, 47 grandchildren,46 great grandchildren, sisters, Lucille & husband Robert Brand of New Ulm and Adella & husband Ray Tauer of Hanska, and sisters-in-law, Donna Helget of Sleepy Eye, Verna Sturm of Sleepy Eye and Leona Braulick of Searles.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Alice on June 26, 1986, brothers, Marvin and Vernard, sister, Elvira, brothers-in-law, Eugene Sturm, Melvin Braulick and Stan Wiltcheck, and sister-in-law, Delores Helget.
