Nicholas B. Hillesheim , 86, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000. at St. John Home in Springfield.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye with burial in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Sleepy Eye.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m.today and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye. There will be a parish prayer service at 5 p.m. and a K.C. & C.O.F. rosary at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
He is survived by his children and their spouses, Sharon and Lester Malecha of Lonsdale, Ronald "Butch" and Nancy Hillesheim of Nashua, Iowa, Gary and Rosie Hillesheim of Sleepy Eye, Dean and Margaret Hillesheim of Minnetonka, Susan and Tom Schewe of Sleepy Eye; 20 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; sisters, Verna Rein of Shakopee and Rose Prokosch of Lamberton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Veronica in 1997; brothers, Hubert, Herman, Henry, Edwin, "Sam," Art and Leonard; sisters; Katherine Rubey and Margaret Busch; and brothers-in-law, Jerome Rein and John "Jack" Prokosch.
He was born May 20, 1913, in rural Sleepy Eye to Joseph A. and Margaret (Mertz) Hillesheim. He attended Iberia country school. He married Veronica T. Marz on May 1, 1939, in Faribault. The couple made their home on Nick's family home farm in Stark Township. They farmed there until retiring and moving to Sleepy Eye in 1975. He was a lifetime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye, the Sleepy Eye Lion Club, the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Order of Foresters. He also served on the Stark Township Board, Iberia School Board and St. Mary's Cemetery Board.
The family prefers memorials to the Alzheimer's Association.
