Linus Hillesheim, 80, of New Ulm died Wednesday, May 31, 2006 at the Sleepy Eye Care Center in Sleepy Eye. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery. Full Military Honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the New Ulm Veteran's Organizations. Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Monday and from 7:30 - 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a parish prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Linus is survived by his wife, Alice Hillesheim of New Ulm; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Mike, Sr. Stott of North Mankato; sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Gwen Hillesheim of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Randy and Sandy Hillesheim of New Ulm; Pat and Julie Hillesheim of rural New Ulm; ten grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Bernice and Leo Ludwig of Comfrey, Bernette and Clifford Schumacher of Sleepy Eye, Loretta Roiger of St. Michael; brother, Roman Hillesheim of Sleepy Eye; and many nieces; and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Veronica Groebner; and two sisters in infancy; brothers, Walter Hillesheim, Albert Hillesheim, Leslie Hillesheim, and Lawrence Hillesheim.

Linus Francis Hillesheim was born on October 29, 1925 in Sleepy Eye to Frank and Catherine (Goblirsch) Hillesheim. He was a veteran of WWII serving in Europe. On May 24, 1949 he was united in marriage to Alice Wilfahrt at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. They farmed near Sleepy Eye for three years and then farmed near Searles until retiring in 1988 and then moved to New Ulm. He played for the Stark Township baseball team in his early years . He was an avid Twins and Vikings fan and had enjoyed league bowling. Linus was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm and the American Legion Post # 132 in New Ulm.
