Mrs. Joseph A. Hilleshiem, 70, Sleepy Eye residents, died at her home Friedday at 6:15 pm. She suffered a heart attack and died suddenly.
Funeral services were today (Monday) at 9:30 am in St. Mary's Catholic church, Sleepy Eye. Burial was in St. Mary's cemetery. Pallbearers were: Linus Rubey, John Prokosch, and Jerome Hillesheim, grandsons, and Raymond Mertz, Nicholas Mertz, and Joseph Mertz, nephews.
Margaret Mertz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Mertz, was born Nov. 14 1875, in Prairieville township. She grew to womanhood on the home farm and was married to Joseph A. Hillesheim in St. Mary's Catholic church, Sleepy Eye, Aug. 29, 1900. They took up their residence on a farm in Albin township, which was the family home until 1942, when they retired and moved to Sleepy Eye. This has since been the home. Mr. Hillesheim died Jan. 8, 1943.
Mr. and Mrs. Hillesehim were the parents of 11 children, two of whom preceded their mother in death. The living children are: Hubert Hillesheim, Leavenworth; Herman Hillesheim, Chicago; Nicholas Hillesheim, Stark; Henry Hillesheim, Home; Edwin Hillesheim, Sleepy Eye; Mrs. Katherine Rubey, Stark; Mrs. John (Rose) Prokosch, Stark; Mrs. Francis (Margaret) Busch, Jordan and Mrs. Jerome (Verna) Rein, Shakopee.
there are 30 grandchildren. Surviving brothers and sisters are: Mrs. Frank Marks, Sleepy Eye; Mrs. Anna Flor, Mrs. Barbara Palta, Jacob Mertz, New Ulm; John Mertz, Leavenworth; Nick Mertz, Prairieville; Henry Mertz, Waitsburg, Wash; Mrs. Matt Hockert, Kensel, N.D. One brother died in April.
Mrs. Hillesheim was a memeber of the Christian Mothers' society of St. Mary's at Sleepy Eye, and of the Sleepy Eye American Legion auxiliary.
