Eleanor (Haala) Kretsch

Eleanor Kretsch, 92, of New Ulm died Saturday, June 17, 2006 at the Sleepy Eye Care Center in Sleepy Eye. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Monday and from 7:30 - 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a parish prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Eleanor is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Monica and Randy Wenninger of New Ulm, Ernest and Theresia Kretsch, Pat and Colleen Kretsch, and Paul and Janice Kretsch all of New Ulm; ten grandchildren, twenty six great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Frieda Sellner, Lillian and Merton Stimpert all of Sleepy Eye; and a sister-in-law, Elaine Haala of Sleepy Eye. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Anton "Tony" Kretsch in 1986; a sister, Adeline Tauer; and brothers, Leo Haala, Larry Haala and a brother, Laverne Haala in infancy.

Eleanor Ann Haala was born on June 28, 1913 in Albin Township, Brown County to John and Wilhelmina (Seidl) Haala. On September 12, 1933 she was united in marriage to Anton Kretsch at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. They farmed in Sigel Township, Brown County for 47 years. In 1980 they retired and moved to New Ulm. She had worked as a cook at D.M.L.C. in New Ulm for 12 years. Eleanor enjoyed crocheting, playing bingo, and watching the Twins and Pro Golf on Television. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm and the Ministry of Praise.
