Anton Mathiowetz , 85, of Hopkins, died Jan. 16, 2006, at the MN Veterans Home in Mpls.

Tony is survived by his wife of 60 years, Phyllis; children, Diane of Atlanta, Pat (Tim) Mauren of Maple Grove, Alan (Jan) of Edina and Rick (Pattie) of Prior Lake; grandchildren, Gabrielle (Matt) Mauren, Adrianne, Paige, Claire, Jack and Ted; sister, Marie Cook; sisters-in-law, Rose, Mary, Ida, Lucille and Winnifred; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Raymond, Ambrose, Wendelin, Leonhart, Alfred, Joseph, Leo, Leonard, Ethelbert, Heribert, Arthur; and sister, Theresa.

He was born Dec. 12, 1920, in Mulligan Township, Brown County, to Bartl and Theresa (Reminger) Mathiowetz. He served in the Pacific Theater in WWII. On April 24, 1945, he married Phyllis Marie Zwaschka. He was a long time member and business agent for IBEW 292. Upon retiring in 1982, he and Phyllis lived for many years in Cold Spring, St. Cloud and Mission, TX, where they enjoyed golfing and bowling. He was an avid Minnesota sports fan and gardener. Two of his favorite stories were being struck out by the great Bob Felier and dancing with Rita Hayworth.

Memorial service is 1 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 19, at the Minnesota Veterans Home, 5100 Minnehaha Ave. Mpls. Visitation is 12:30-1 p.m.

Private interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
