James J. Maurer, 71, of 326 N. Payne in New Ulm died Saturday, May 8, 1999 at New Ulm Medical Center.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with burial in the Catholic Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by the New Ulm veterans organizations.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30 - 9:30 a.m.Tuesday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
He is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Ruth and Jason Jobe of Sterling, Va., Deb Maurer of Minneapolis, and Janel Maurer of Maplewood; two grandchildren; sister, Mary Lovejoy of Los Angeles, Calif.; brothers, Paul Maurer of New Ulm and Bob Maurer of Sleepy Eye.
He was preceded in death by brother, Joe Maurer; and two sisters in infancy.
He was born on Jan. 15, 1928 in New Ulm to Frank and Margaret (Zwaschka) Maurer. He graduated from Cathedral High School in 1946. He was employed with the International Multifoods as an office manager at the Rye Mill in New Ulm until it burned down. He then moved to Melrose Park, Ill. and continued to work for International Multifoods until retiring in 1993. After retiring he moved back to New Ulm. He was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, the Seifert-Bianchi American Legion Post 32, Turner Hall in New Ulm and Mayflower Country Club in Fairfax.
