Membership in the New Ulm Battery

The New Ulm Battery is now recruiting men of quality to continue the long and proud tradition of defending the Citizens of New Ulm.

We are an organized unit of Civil War era artillery horsemen and re-enactors from Minnesota who honor the memory of Civl War Union Artillery veterans and New Ulm Battery veterans through living history and preservation. The ordnance we currently use consists of: one 6 lbs field gun, two 3 in rifled guns, limbers, cassions, harnesses and draft horses from nearby farms.

Our membership runs the entire length of experience from novice to professional artillerist. We have won awards for black powder, cannon and mortar competitions

We will instruct you in the duties of the common solder, the cannoneer, tactics, horesmanship and camp life of the Civil War era soldier, You will also learn about and experience, first hand, the history of the New Ulm Battery.  We take our drill and our impression seriously while having fun. We also take part in two parades in which the entire unit is mounted on horseback to include cannons and limbers pulled by teams of draft horses.

No prior experience is required.  We welcome your participation and we're ready to integrate you into the proud tradition of the New Ulm Battery
