MBW Volunteers Make Dog
Blankets
& Cat Pads for BCHS Animals
by Cathy Knadel
Sandy Wilfahrt, Laneta Farr,
Ellen Held and Cathy Knadel began making
dog blankets and cat pads this spring. They donate the blankets to the
Brown County Humane Society. The dogs and cats can keep themselves warm
while they stay at the Humane Society. When they're adopted, they get to
take their blankets with to their new home.

Ellen and Cathy work for MBW.
They help Sandy and Laneta with the sewing.
Ellen helps Laneta with the cat pads, and Cathy helps Sandy with the dog
blankets.
Sandy is able to help sew using
an Abel net box. The sewing machine plugs into
the box. Also plugged into the box is a switch button that wraps around
Sandy's hand. Sandy activates the sewing machine by holding the switch
button around her hand while Cathy guides the material and sews.
The machine will not run if Sandy doesn't hold the button down.
This is a fun project for all of us.

box by Sandy's feet and the switch button in her hand.
When we are finished, we
deliver the blankets to the BCHS. Adoption
agents make sure the animals get them. Every adopted animal goes to
their new home with a pretty dog blanket or cat pad. We look forward to
keeping every dog and cat cozy warm in the future.
(Editor's note: If you would like to donate flannel,
cotton/cotton-blend material or
batting (the kind that is on a roll) for this project, please call 354-8178 and
leave a
message; someone will get back to you. These large, colorful dog blankets
and cat pads are beautifully made.
Look for extras on sale at PETFEST and other events).
