The Perfect Pet

It seems to me that a lot of
people are looking for the "perfect pet" when
they are looking to adopt and animal. You know, one that won't have
"accidents" in the house. A dog that won't bark too much or
chase
the cat. A kitten that won't climb the curtains. A cat that is
social and a
lap cat. A dog that lays at your feet or fetches your slippers.
Wouldn't it be nice if we could just put in our order and get exactly
what we wanted? The Perfect Pet!
Well, I'm here to tell you that it doesn't exist! I'm sure any pet
owner could tell you the same thing. They may have thought they
had the perfect pet, but upon reflection, when it gets down to
it and they all think about it, we all know even our best animals
have their little flaws and bad habits.
For example, Casey is the
biggest, nicest baby you ever saw!

Now, she's 78 pounds and thinks
she's still a pup!
(She tries to sit in my lap!) She does great with her dog obedience
training
but I still don't trust her off leash. She likes little dogs but
definitely doesn't like big dogs or strangers.
Even my dog Sandy had her
imperfections. And I always considered
her the best dog in the world! If it was up to her, it would be just
her
and I in the whole world. But that was a problem too. She
wasn't
crazy about other dogs and didn't like little kids and certain people.
But that was o.k. I knew these things and dealt with them.

One more good example is my cat
Tuffy. He is such a cool cat!
He's the type that runs to the door when the door bell rings to
see who's there! How often does that happen? He's definitely NOT
a scaredy cat! But he is a long haired cat and hacks up a lot
of fur balls. And he likes to gorge on his food and then pukes.
I call him my bulimic cat. I deal with this by always having
a can of carpet cleaner around!

Other than that......he's
purrrfect!
But we love them dearly anyway
so we have to be willing
to work with their little imperfections, flaws and bad habits.
It takes time to adjust to a new animal and thank God
they seem to tolerate us pretty well!
Please don't try to replace that special pet that is gone - you'll
never do it. Each pet is different and unique in their own way.
Make some new memories with a new adopted pet.
If you're looking to adopt the
"perfect pet", remember,
it doesn't exist. When was the last time you met a perfect human?
