Funeral services for Clair N. Parrott, 97,
of Storm Lake, formerly of Alta, will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 8,
2011, at the United Methodist Church in Alta with Pastor Terry Pollard
officiating. Masonic services will follow. Burial will be in the
Pleasant Hill Cemetery, rural Aurelia. Visitation will be prior to the
service from 12:00 P.M. until service time at the church. The Redig
Funeral Home in Aurelia is in charge of arrangements.
Clair Neville Parrott was born on January
24, 1913, the son of George and Phena (Neville) Parrott near Aurelia,
IA. He graduated from the Aurelia High School in 1930. On November 25,
1932 Clair was united in marriage to Ruby Lucille Frank. To this union
four children were born; Jim, Gwendolyn, Howard and Tom. Clair and Ruby
spent their entire lives farming in the Aurelia area until 1981 when
they moved to Alta. Ruby passed away January 25, 1996. Clair moved to
Methodist Manor in 2002, and then to Otsego Place when the new building
was completed. He was a member of Alta United Methodist Church, Eastern
Star, and was a 50 year member of Masons. Clair enjoyed flying as a
hobby and owned his own plane, flying all over Iowa and Minnesota. In
the 1950’s Clair and Ruby hosted a fly-in at their farm. In his
retirement he took up golfing and bowling. He was an avid reader and had
a wonderful sense of humor.
Clair died Thursday, January 6, 2011, at the
Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, at the age of 97
years, 11 months, and 12 days.
Preceding Clair in death were his parents,
his wife of 63 years Ruby, one brother, Dean, and one sister, Fern Lyon.
Survivors include his children,
Jim and his wife Barb Parrott of Des Moines, Gwen Mullinnix of Woodbine,
Howard and his wife Marlene Parrott of Garner, and Tom and his wife Mary
Parrott of Fruitland, twelve grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, five
great-great-grandchildren, special friend Jeanne Bircher of Storm Lake,
and other relatives and friends.
