Funeral
services for Daniel H. “Dan” Sweet, 88, of Aurelia, will be 10:30 A.M.
Monday, May 3, 2010, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee with
Pastor Larry Lemke officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill
Cemetery, rural Aurelia. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 P.M. to
8:00 P.M., with the family present from 2:00 to 4:00, at the Redig
Funeral Home in Aurelia.
Daniel Henry
Sweet was born on April 10, 1922, the son of Edwin and Irene (McCoy)
Sweet in Storm Lake, IA. He graduated from the Truesdale High School in
1939. On November 6, 1942 Dan married Lottie M. Wilson at Geneva,
Nebraska. He farmed in Buena Vista and Cherokee counties. Lottie died
November 11, 1988. In 1990 Dan married Joy Wieland in Cherokee. Joy died
in 2008. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee. Dan
was a loving husband, protective father, doting grandfather, adoring
great-grandfather, and a great cook. He enjoyed the nursing home visits
from his companion of eight years, his dog Toby.
Dan died
Thursday, April 29, 2010, at the Sunset Knoll Care and Rehab Center in
Aurelia.
Preceding
Dan in death were his parents, his wife Lottie, son Daniel W. “Sam”
Sweet, his wife Joy, one sister, Dorthea Meyer, one brother, Edwin
Sweet, Jr., three brothers-in-law, Si Meyer, Glenn Liebsch and Einar
Lindstrom, and one sister-in-law, Marie Sweet.
Survivors include his daughters, Brenda and her husband Terry Tufly of
Rockford, IL, and Jodi and her husband Tom Lytle of Aurelia. Also
surviving are special niece Jone Pearson of Cherokee, six grandchildren,
Josh and wife Kristin Cedar of Cherokee, Nick Cedar and special friend
Elif Anderson and her children Leyla and Michael of Abbeville, LA, Cody
Cedar and special friend Katie Lockwood of Aurelia, Merry Sweet of Cedar
Rapids, IA, Brandon and wife Darcee Baney of Rockford, IL, Clint Baney
of Marietta, GA, and Stefanie Tufly of Platteville, WI, three
great-grandchildren, Maeryn Cedar, Bryce Baney and Maci Baney, two
sisters, Wilma Liebsch of Grand Marais, MN, and Bobby Lindstrom of Le
Mars, and nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
