DORIS LOCKIN
Funeral services for Doris Lockin, 69, of
Aurelia, will be 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, January 17, 2007, at the First
United Methodist Church in Aurelia, with Pastor Harold Werley
officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Aurelia.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., with the
family present from 5:00 to 8:00, at the First United Methodist Church
in Aurelia. The Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia is in charge of
arrangements.
Doris died Saturday, January 13, 2007 at the
Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee after a yearlong battle
with cancer.
Doris Louise Nydene was born October 4, 1937
in Alta, Iowa, the daughter of Ruben and Edna (Osbeck) Nydene. She was
raised on a farm north of Alta, and was educated at Fairview School,
graduating with the class of 1955. She attended Buena Vista College,
getting her teaching degree in 1957. She taught in the Newell, Iowa
school system for a half-year, before moving to Aurelia where she taught
Kindergarten for a total of 26 years.
On August 2, 1959 Doris married John C.
Lockin at the Evangelical Free Church north of Alta. Her life was built
out of the love of her children and grandchildren, her everlasting love
for her Lord and Savior, and the joy and love for the hundreds of
students whose lives she touched during her teaching career. She was a
member of the Aurelia United Methodist Church, The Aurelia Women’s Club,
Retired Teachers, and Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing golf,
cards, and caring for her flower gardens, as well as watching her
children and grandchildren compete in their numerous sporting events.
Preceding Doris in death were her parents,
one son, Gary J. Lockin, and a grandson, Joseph Lockin.
Survivors include her husband John of
Aurelia, three sons, Douglas and his wife Rhonda Lockin and their
children; Charles, Meredith, Hannah, and Gabriel of Clive, IA, son Alan
and his wife Lorrie Lockin and their children; Benjamin, Elizabeth, and
Nicholas of Des Moines, son Brian and his wife Keisha Lockin and their
children; Erica, Erin, and Shea Marie of Aurelia, and one daughter,
LeAnn and her husband David Patton and their children; Lexie and Annika
of Aurelia. Also surviving are one brother, Dale and his wife Luella
Nydene of Alta, and their children; Lori and her husband Chris Marshall
of Peyton, CO, and Corey and his wife Kelley Nydene of Des Moines, and
other relatives and friends.
