DORIS PEEKENSCHNEIDER
Funeral services for Doris Peekenschneider, 79, of Cherokee, formerly of
Aurelia, will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at the Bethlehem
Lutheran Church in Cherokee with Pastor Jim Steen officiating. Burial
will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, rural Aurelia. Visitation will be
Monday from 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., with the family present from 6 to 8,
at the Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia.
Doris Irene Knudsen was born on March 9, 1930, the daughter of Lorens
John and Margaret (Foster) Knudsen at Correctionville, Iowa. She
received her education in Correctionville and graduated from the
Correctionville High School in 1950. On March 2, 1954, Doris married
Marvin Peekenschneider in Correctionville. She babysat in her home and
cleaned houses before being a Headstart teacher from 1973 to 1992. She
then provided daycare in her home from 1992 until she retired in 2006.
She had been a Girl Scout leader for five years. Doris dearly loved
children, and enjoyed doing needlework, reading, playing cards, and
feeding and watching the birds and squirrels.
Doris died Saturday, May 9, 2009, at the Cherokee Regional Medical
Center in Cherokee, Iowa.
Preceding Doris in death were her parents, her husband Marvin on
September 16, 2008, and daughter JoAnn Peekenschneider.
Survivors include her children,
Rodney and his wife Bonnie Peekenschneider of Lake Park, Vicki and her
husband Corry Gorden of Ida Grove, Mary and her husband Jerry Keleher of
Sioux City, Heidi Peekenschneider of Cherokee, and Tia McKenzie of
Remsen, ten grandchildren, Mitch and his wife Amy Loucks of Cherokee,
Madison Loucks and Nikki Loucks of Sioux City, Calvin Thacker of LaBelle,
FL, Tyler Peekenschneider of Lake Park, Kassandra Karley, Cody and Brice
Gorden all of Ida Grove, and Logan and Lucas McKenzie of Aurelia, and
three great-grandchildren, MaKaelyn and Tayven Glienke and Daenon Loucks.
Also surviving are one sister, June and her husband Arnold Sands of
Correctionville, one brother, Lorens Knudsen II and his wife Pacita of
Chula Vista, CA, one sister-in-law, Marion and her husband Russell Stamp
of Webster City, many nieces and nephews, and special friends Lori and
Darrell Woltman, Dena Woltman, Cassie Woltman, and Sharon Paltz.
