EITEL H. MOHN
Funeral
services for Eitel Mohn, 92, of Cherokee, formerly of Aurelia, will be
10:30 Tuesday, July 19, 2005 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aurelia,
with Pastor Larry Lemke officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant
Hill Cemetery, Aurelia. Visitation will be Monday from 2:00 P.M. to
8:00 P.M., with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00, at the Redig
Funeral Home in Aurelia.
Eitel died
Friday, July 15, 2005, at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center.
Eitel Hugo
Mohn was born June 20, 1913, to Claus and Margaret (Hohnkampt) Mohn at
Holstein. He attended country schools. After the death of his parents,
his home was with cousins, Henry and Wilhelmina Nelson of Aurelia. He
was confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aurelia on April 1, 9128.
On December 15, 1938 Eitel married Frieda Hinkeldey at St. John’s
Lutheran Church, Hanover. They farmed in Cherokee County both south and
north of Aurelia until moving to Aurelia in August 1971. Eitel and
Frieda moved to The Beck in Cherokee in March of 2001. Eitel was a
member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, having held all of the lay church
positions at some point. He enjoyed fishing, watching baseball games,
playing pool with his buddies, and being with his family. During his
lifetime, Eitel was also a 4-H leader, Kiwanis member, and Director of
Maple Valley Mutual Insurance.
Preceding
Eitel in death were his parents, his foster parents, five sisters,
Louise, Ella, Elfrieda, Erma, and Edna, and two brothers, Herbert and
William.
Survivors
include his wife of 66 years, Frieda, their three children; Lois Pingel
and her husband Carroll of St. Charles, MO, Myrna Hamann and her husband
Jon of Woodbury, MN, and Jim Mohn and his wife Connie of Cherokee, six
grandchildren; Doug Pingel and his wife Dana of New Palestine, IN,
Denise Scoffic and her husband Michael of St. Peters, MO, Dora Hyslop
and her husband Scott of Frankenmuth, MI, Heidi Hamann and her husband
Erik Gronberg of St. Paul, MN, and Alicia Mohn of Iowa City, IA, four
great-grandchildren; Sarah and Matthew Pingel, Alexandra Capestany, and
Nicholas Hyslop, one brother, Arnold Mohn and his wife Lamerne of Story
City, IA, and one sister-in-law, Opal Hinkeldey of Alta, several nieces
and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
