FLORENCE BUDDENHAGEN
Funeral services for Florence Buddenhagen,
94, of Aurelia, will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 28, 2009, at the
St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aurelia with Pastor Larry Lemke officiating.
Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Aurelia.
Visitation will be Tuesday at the church from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.,
with the family being present. The Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia is in
charge of arrangements.
Florence Marie Mahler was born August 11,
1914, the daughter of Theodore and Sophia (Hasenwinkel) Mahler, near
Aurelia in Brooke Township. Her family later farmed in the Sutherland,
IA, area, and in Cherokee County. Florence worked for many families in
the area when women had children. On December 20, 1936, Florence
married John Buddenhagen at the Immanuel Lutheran Church. They farmed
north of Aurelia until moving into town in 1975. In 2006, Florence moved
into the Sunset Knoll Nursing and Rehab Center in Aurelia for assisted
living care.
Florence was a member of the St. Paul
Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid (LWML). She helped make quilts for
World Relief. Florence made many quilts for her children, grandchildren,
and great-grandchildren.
Florence died Saturday, January 24, 2009, at
the Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee, Iowa.
Preceding Florence in death were her
parents, her husband John on September 17, 1995, two sons, Clayton in
infancy, and Russell and his wife Lois, one great-grandson, Bradley,
four brothers, Walter, Elmer, Emmett, and Richard Mahler, and four
sisters, Clara Zoffke, Leona Holland, LaVera Mahler, and Irene
Mandernach.
Survivors include one
daughter, Karen and her husband Charles Hofmann of Tucson, AZ, two sons,
Lyle and his wife Marlys Buddenhagen of Tracy, MN, and Lloyd and his
wife Renee Buddenhagen of Aurelia. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren,
Tina and husband Kenneth Williams, Timothy and wife Peggy Buddenhagen,
Curtis and wife Maureen Hofmann, Lane and wife Danielle Hofmann, Douglas
and wife Nancy Buddenhagen, Rochelle and husband Paul VanderWoude, Lesli
Buddenhagen, Jodi Buddenhagen, Eric and wife Carrie Buddenhagen, Jessica
Buddenhagen, and Alicia and husband Justin Thompson, 16
great-grandchildren, Nick and Cara Williams, Bill, Ryan, and Kathryn
Hofmann, Nathan, Adam, and Evan Hofmann, Katie Buddenhagen, DJ
Buddenhagen, Samantha and Alex Krael, Alyssa and Derek Claar, and Ethan
and Levi VanderWoude, one sister, Rosalyn Puhrmann of Litchfield, MN,
sister-in-law Dolores Mahler of Cherokee, brother-in-law Reinhold
Braunschweig of Reeseville, WI, and many nieces and nephews and other
relatives and friends.
