JACK DARRELL COOMBS
Funeral services for Jack Coombs,
90, of Mapleton, Iowa, formerly of Aurelia, will be Friday, November 12,
2010, at 10:30 A.M. at the First Congregational Church, 500 Main St,
Aurelia, Iowa, with Pastor Bruce Rapp officiating. Visitation will be
Thursday, November 11, 2010, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Redig
Funeral Home in Aurelia, Iowa, with the family present.
Jack Darrell Coombs was born July
15, 1920, in Aurelia, Iowa to Cliff and Nota (Reckoff) Coombs. He
attended and graduated from the Aurelia schools. Jack attended Buena
Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa. He served in the Air Force from 1942
to 1945. He served at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, and was
stationed overseas. He fought in WW II.
Jack married Georgia Godwin with
whom he had five children. He worked at Simonsen’s Manufacturing in
Quimby, Iowa until retiring. He also farmed and raised horses in
Aurelia throughout his life. Jack loved his farm, raising horses,
playing cards with his friends, driving his old truck, and sharing time
with his kids, 20 grandkids, and three great-grandkids. He loved
watching football on TV. Jack had his surprise 90th birthday
party this past July, and was able to attend the wedding of his oldest
grandson, Ben, in Texas last month.
Jack died Monday, November 8,
2010, at the Burgess Health Center in Onawa, IA.
Preceding Jack in death were his
parents, Nota and Cliff Coombs; his sister, Betty Phipps; his brothers,
Joe Coombs and Tom Coombs; his maternal grandparents, William and
Clementine Reckoff; his paternal grandparents, Zoma and Ella Coombs;
three nieces, Amy Coombs, Janet Phipps, and Peggy Coombs, and one
nephew, Dennis Phipps.
Survivors include his five
children, Jeff Coombs and wife Kathy of Rockford, MN; Kathy Smith and
husband Doyle of Sgt. Bluff, IA; Gary Coombs and wife Karen of New Smyma
Beach, FL; Kyla Holton and husband John of Mapleton, IA; and Joel Coombs
and wife Hallie of Hutto, TX, 20 granchildren, Ben Burns and wife
Aubony; Nate Smith; Casey Burns, finance’ Ashley; Angie Schroeder and
husband Ryan; Emily Burns; Trace Smith; John Holton; Jenny Holton; Cody
Holton; Courtney Holton; Cole Holton; Shawn Holton; Travis Holton;
Jordan Holton; Travis Coombs; Tyler Coombs; Michael Coombs; Martha
Coombs; Luke Coombs; Brittni Coombs, and three great-grandchildren,
Connor Burns; Cale Schroeder; and Kinzy Coombs, and other relatives and
friends.
