Memorial services for Janet D. Kolpin, 75,
of Cherokee will be 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, November 28, 2007, at the
First Congregational Church in Aurelia, with Pastor Bruce Rapp
officiating. Inurnment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Aurelia.
There will be no visitation. The Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia is in
charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been
established.
Janet died Sunday, November 25, 2007 at the
Sunset Knoll Care and Rehab Center in Aurelia, where she had been a
resident.
Janet Dora Wieland was born August 29, 1932
at the Bates Hospital in Aurelia, Iowa, the daughter of George William
and Pauline Selma (Stutz) Wieland. She received her education in the
Aurelia Community School system, and graduated from the Aurelia High
School in 1950. While in school Janet played the clarinet in band, sang
in mixed choirs, was a member of the Future Homemakers of America (F.H.A.),
and served as a homecoming attendant. She attended the Methodist Church
where she played the piano for adult Sunday school, and was learning to
play the church’s pipe organ. After Janet graduated she went to work for
Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Cherokee, where she worked as an
operator for a few months then worked in the business office for four
years.
On September 24, 1954 Janet married Harlan
Kolpin in Jackson, MN. In 1955 they moved to Chariton, IA, and lived
there until 1968, when they moved to Knoxville, IA. In 1970 Janet and
Harlan were divorced. Janet moved back to the area and settled in
Cherokee with her five children. She worked a few years for O&E Café in
Cherokee, and then worked at Hilltop Care Center in Cherokee where she
worked in both the dietary and laundry departments until she retired in
1998.
Preceding Janet in death were her father in
1972, her mother in 1995, and her brother, Keith Wieland in 1988.
Survivors include her five children, Kathy
and her husband Dale Zoch of Cherokee, Richard Kolpin of Cherokee, Cindy
and her husband Dale Graham of Cherokee, Pam Craig of Cherokee, and
James and his wife Linda Kolpin of Aurelia. Also surviving are eight
grandchildren; Melissa Agnitsch, Jody Zoch, William Graham, Jessica
Graham, Adam Craig, Abby Craig, Ian Kolpin, and Eli Kolpin, two
great-grandchildren; Dylan Agnitsch and Dominic Graham, one sister;
Gretchen and her husband Dean Mummert of Cherokee, sister-in-law Darlene
Joy Wetrosky of Cherokee, and other relatives and friends.
