JOSEPH E. SPROUSE
Funeral services for Joseph Sprouse, 79, of
Aurelia, will be 1:30 Tuesday, May 31, 2005, at the First United
Methodist Church in Aurelia with Pastor Jack O. Weida officiating.
Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Aurelia. Visitation will
be Monday from 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., with the family present from 6:00
to 8:00, at the Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia.
Joseph Edwin Sprouse was born on November 7,
1925 in Galva, Iowa, the son of Lawrence Arthur and Nina Katherine
(Nelson) Sprouse. Joe graduated from the Galva High School. He entered
the US Army in August of 1944 where he served until November of 1945.
Joe was united in marriage to Dolores Marie Murr on February 5, 1949 at
Odebolt, IA. They had six children, Connie, Diane, Nancy, Larry, Mark
and Michael. After the service, he began working at the Aurelia
Elevator then as a farm hand and later started at Wilson’s in Cherokee
until his retirement in August of 1985. Joe was a member of the First
United Methodist Church in Aurelia, was a member of the VFW and the
Grashoff-McManus American Legion Post #390 of Aurelia. He enjoyed
fishing, woodworking, hunting, gardening and kidding around with family
and friends.
Joe died on Thursday, May 26, 2005, at the
Country Side Estates in Cherokee.
Preceding Joe in death were his parents, two
sisters, Viola Peterson and Mary Sprouse, and one granddaughter, Brenda
Hugg.
Survivors include his wife Dolores Sprouse
of Aurelia, three daughters, Connie and her husband Mark Baschke of
Fostoria, IA, Diane and her husband Ned Hugg of Bryan, OH, Nancy and her
husband Bruce Frederick of Alta, IA, three sons, Larry and his wife
Heather Sprouse of Plymouth, MN, Mark and his wife Mary Jane Sprouse of
Cherokee, and Michael and his wife Beverly Sprouse of Aurelia, thirteen
grandchildren, Heather Nelson Tuttle, Ryan Nelson, Neil Nelson, Brooke
and her husband Nathan Shahan, Brad Hugg, Zach and his wife Sarah
Frederick, Zeb Frederick, Jeremy Wetzel, Rebecca Wolfe, Daniel Wolfe,
Rachel and her husband Seth Johnson, Jerud and his wife Cassy Cozine
and Joshua Cozine, and five great-grandchildren, Gage Tuttle, Ethan
Shahan, Riley Johnson, Aiden Johnson and Ethan Cozine. Also surviving
are one sister, Hattie Peekenschneider of Cherokee, IA, nieces, nephews,
other relatives and friends.
