JOHN KASTENGREN
Memorial services for John Kastengren, 80,
of Aurelia, will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, May 30, 2009, at the Redig
Funeral Home in Aurelia with Pastor Jim Steen of the Bethlehem Lutheran
Church in Cherokee officiating. Inurnment will be in the Good Hope
Cemetery, rural Cherokee, at a later date. There will be no visitation.
The Redig Funeral Home of Aurelia is in charge of arrangements.
John Kenneth Kastengren was born on October
12, 1928, the son of Joseph C. and Hulda Marie (Peterson) Kastengren at
Aurelia, Iowa. He graduated from the Aurelia High School in 1948. John
worked for Lundell’s in Cherokee, Wharton’s in Aurelia, and for the
First Coop Elevator in Aurelia. John enjoyed music, fishing, visiting
his sister in Colorado, spending time with his nieces and nephews, and
helping others. He took care of his father for more than 20 years.
John died Thursday, May 21, 2009, at the
Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
Preceding John in death were his parents,
three brothers, Donald, Leonard, and Joe Jr., one sister-in-law,
Margaret Kastengren, two brothers-in-law, Olle Bengtsson and Freeman
Bruning, and one niece, Dawn Bengtsson.
Survivors include one brother,
Nels Kastengren of Sutherland, three sisters, Francis Bruning of Quimby,
Marion and her husband Bradley Tate of Bayard, IA, and Shirley Bengtsson
of Longmont, CO, two sisters-in-law, Isabel Kastengren of Cherokee, and
Joyce Kastergren of Aurelia, many nieces and nephews, and other
relatives and friends.
