Graveside services for Lester Lewis, 79, of
Storm Lake, formerly of Fonda, will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, July 21, 2006,
at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Aurelia. There will be no visitation.
The Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia is in charge of arrangements.
Lester died Saturday, July 7, 2006, at
Otsego Place in Storm Lake, Iowa. Lester Leroy Lewis was born June 18,
1927, the son of Walter Leroy and Nellie (Martin) Lewis at Aurelia, IA.
He attended country school in the Aurelia area, as well as schools in
Peterson and Sioux Rapids, IA, until his family moved in 1942 to Eureka
California, where he graduated in 1944. Lester served in the US Navy
Reserves from 1945 to 1946. Lester worked as a waiter in Iowa,
California, and Oregon. He received numerous awards in Iowa for
roller-skating. In 1950 he attended Buena Vista College where he was
active in the chorus and was a member of ALPHA PSI OMEGA Fraternity
where he received recognition for meritorious participation in college
dramatics. Lester moved to Fonda upon his retirement, and had been a
resident of Storm Lake at Methodist Manor and Otsego Place since 2000.
Preceding Lester in death were his parents,
an infant brother, John Richard Lewis, and brother-in-law, Lester K.
White.
Survivors include his
sister, Ruby White of Mission Viejo, CA, one nephew, David and his wife
Nancy Neal of Edgewater, CO, one niece, Gail Neal of Everett, WA, one
great-niece, Heather McCurdy of Everett, WA, and other relatives and
friends.
