Lois married her high school sweetheart, Forrest Jesse Kohrt, on October 10, 1942 in Chicago during World War II.  They were married for 63 years.  They lived in Garner and Knoxville before coming to the Cherokee area in 1954.  Four years later they moved to a farm just outside of Aurelia where they lived for 28 years until moving into Aurelia in 1986.  She loved nursing and provided excellent care, leadership, and staff training at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital for over 30 years.  She served as the head nurse for obstetrics and helped develop and supervise the cardiac care unit.  Lois retired in 1982.  She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and served the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and provided home visitation as a Stephen’s Ministry leader.  Since retirement she remained active with church activities including Stephen’s Ministries and the Ladies Aid.  She crocheted many booties and hats for the infants at the hospital and church.  Lois enjoyed playing bridge and golf, needlepoint, and spending time with her family.  Recently, Lois was honored to become a member of the Red Hat Ladies Society, and thoroughly enjoyed the activities and camaraderie.
