LOWELL D. HILLS
Funeral services for Lowell Hills, 85, of
Aurelia will be Friday, December 14, 2007, at 10:30 A.M. at the First
United Methodist Church in Aurelia with Pastor Harold Werley
officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 2:00 until 8:00 with the
family being present from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Redig Funeral Home in
Aurelia. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Aurelia,
Iowa. Military Honors will be conducted by the Grashoff-McManus
American Legion Post #390 of Aurelia and the Alta VFW.
Lowell DeVere Hills was born January 14,
1922, the son of George and Blanche (Kesler) Hills in Storm Lake, Iowa.
He attended schools in Newell, Sioux Rapids, and graduated from Alta in
1942. In September 1942 Lowell was inducted into the United States Army
being honorably discharged in October 1945 at the rank of Corporal. On
July 26, 1942 Lowell married Bernadine Marie Mullins in Sioux Rapids,
Iowa. To this union three children were born, Mary Lou, L. Dean and Tim
Hills.
Lowell worked in the telephone industry for
40 years. Managing at Linn Grove, Terril and for 31 years at Peoples
Telephone Company in Aurelia, retiring on January 14, 1987. He served
on Peoples Telephone Board of Directors, Aurelia City Council, Kiwanis,
Aurelia American Legion, Alta VFW, past president of Aurelia Commercial
Club, and served on the Aurelia Fire Department for 10 years. Was an
active member of the Aurelia First United Methodist Church serving as
head usher and on various church boards. His first love was his family
and he always said his main hobby was his work. Another hobby was
sports, sports and more sports.
On December 10, 2007 Lowell died at the
Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee, Iowa.
Preceding Lowell in death were
his parents, and his sister, Marjorie and her husband Warren Jimmerson.
Survivors are his
wife Bernadine of Aurelia, daughter Mary Lou and her husband Greg
Benberg of Johnston, IA, two sons, L. Dean Hills Of Overland Park, KS,
and Tim and his wife Marsha Hills of Greenfield, IN, six grandchildren
Angie and her husband Ryan Young, Shawn and his wife Jodi Benberg, Jason
and his wife B.J. Hills, Nicki and her husband Brian Sletten, Chad and
his wife Jessica Hills, and T.J. and his wife Tina Hills, fifteen
great-grand children and sister-in-law Marjorie and her husband Marvin
Holstein of Early, IA nieces and nephews and friends.
