LYLE R. WHITING
Funeral services for Lyle Whiting, 86, of
Aurelia, will be 10:30 Thursday, January 12, 2006, at the First United
Methodist Church in Aurelia, with Pastor Harold Werley officiating.
Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Aurelia. Visitation will
be Wednesday from 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., with the family present
from 6:00 to 8:00, at the Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia.
Lyle Robert Whiting was born on June 4, 1919
in Aurelia, Iowa, the son of Robert and Myrtle (Johnson) Whiting. Lyle
graduated from the Aurelia High School in 1936. He worked as a farm
hand, and then served in the Army Air Corp. On December 28, 1949, Lyle
was united in marriage to Ruby Arlene White at the Methodist Church in
Sioux City, IA. Lyle joined his brother Laurence in Whiting Clothing in
Aurelia, and later worked for the U.S. Post Office in Aurelia where he
served as Postmaster until his retirement in 1982. Lyle and Ruby spent
their winters in Texas for several years. He was a member of the First
United Methodist Church in Aurelia, the Aurelia Fire Department, Aurelia
Golf Course Board, and the Grashoff-McManus American Legion Post #390 of
Aurelia. Lyle enjoyed helping farmers, golfing, bowling, and playing
cards.
Lyle died Monday, January 9, 2006, at the
Sunset Knoll Retirement Home in Aurelia, where he had been a resident
for the past month.
Preceding Lyle in death were his parents,
and infant son, an infant brother, Harold Whiting, brother Laurence
Whiting, and two sisters, Bonnie Barnett and Gladys Peck.
Survivors include his
wife Ruby Whiting of Aurelia, one son, Kirk and Kay Whiting of Hoffman
Estates, IL, three grandchildren, Tony Smith, Preston Whiting, and
Brittney Whiting, one sister, Lorilla Resene of Aurelia, several nieces,
nephews, and other friends.
