FETT
Funeral
services for Marilyn M. Fett, 80, of Aurelia, formerly of Storm Lake,
will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday, May 1, 2011, at the Grace Lutheran Church in
Storm Lake with Pastor Steve Schulz officiating. Burial will be in the
St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Hanover. Visitation will be Saturday from
4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00, at
the Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia.
Marilyn
Marie Kreft was born on March 29, 1931, the third child of four born to
Albert and Christena (Buse) Kreft near Nemaha, IA. She graduated from
the Nemaha High School in 1948. She attended Buena Vista College in
Storm Lake where she earned her elementary school teaching certificate.
On September 18, 1949 Marilyn was united in marriage to Gordon F. Fett
at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake.
Marilyn taught kindergarten through grade 2 at Highview Consolidated
School for several years. She worked in the library at the Aurelia High
School, then later at the Area Education Agency in Marshalltown and in
the library of a junior high school in Marshalltown.
She was a
member of Grace Lutheran Church, several church groups, and quilting
circle. Marilyn and Gordon enjoyed traveling in Europe, Norway, Sweden,
Canada, Mexico, and most of all in the United States including Alaska
and Hawaii. She especially enjoyed working with her flowers and being
with her grandchildren.
Marilyn died
Thursday, April 28, 2011, at the Sunset Knoll Care & Rehab Center in
Aurelia.
Preceding
Marilyn in death were her parents, brother Eugene (Sam) and wife Ardeth
Kreft, sister Nina Albin, grandson Billy Johnson, brothers-in-law Harold
(Dick) Hughes, Harold and wife Ruth Fett, Donald Fett, Luvurn Fett, and
infant brother-in-law Robert Fett, parents-in-law August and Mamie Fett
and step-mother-in-law Louise Fett.
Survivors
include her husband Gordon Fett of Aurelia, two children, Robert and his
wife Gretchen Fett of Inver Grove Heights, MN, and Susan and her husband
Dave Johnson of Aurelia. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Jeremy
and his wife Nikki Johnson of Ames, Tanner Johnson currently serving in
the Iowa National Guard in Kabul, Afghanistan, Kelsey Johnson of
Aurelia, and Christian Fett and Daniel Fett, both of Inver Grove
Heights, two great-grandchildren, Isabella and Cole Johnson of Ames, one
sister, Lois Hughes of Ankeny, sister-in-law Marge Fett of Alta, and
brother-in-law Raynard Schmidt of Vail, and other relatives and friends.
