MELVA M. ANDERSON
Funeral services for Melva M. Anderson, 90,
of Aurelia will be Thursday, December 16, 2010, at 11:00 A.M. at the
First United Methodist Church in Aurelia, with Pastor Missy Brown
officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, rural
Aurelia. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M.,
with the family present from 4:00 to 6:00, at the Redig Funeral Home in
Aurelia.
Melva died on Sunday, December 12, 2010, at
the Sunset Knoll Care & Rehab Center in Aurelia.
Melva Marie Kas was born April 2, 1920, the
daughter of Jacob and Agnes (Tierney) Kas in Sutherland, IA. She
graduated from Brooke Consolidated High School in 1938. Melva graduated
from St. Joseph College of Nursing in Sioux City. On December 6, 1942
she married Harold William “Yubby” Anderson at the Methodist Church in
Aurelia. They farmed until 1985. Melva was a Registered Nurse at Sioux
Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee for 41 years. She was Director of
Nursing from 1984 to 1986 at Countryside Estates in Cherokee. Melva was
a member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women,
Pal Club, and Craft Club. She enjoyed her children, grandchildren and
great-grandchildren, going fishing and all the fun times at Sand Bar
Beach on Big Spirit, playing cards and monthly card parties with
friends, sharing pictures, and providing holiday meals for her family.
Preceding Melva in death were her parents,
her husband Yubby on April 24, 2010, one brother, Bernard Kas, and one
great-granddaughter, Brittni Beeson.
Survivors include three children; Sandy and
her husband Jerry Hodge of Spirit Lake, Tom and his wife Lynn Anderson
of Estherville, and Paula Brede and Rick Hurshman of Butler, MO. Also
surviving are six grandchildren; Krystal McBride, Stacy and wife Shari
Beeson, Steven and wife Sara Anderson, Eric and wife Rita Anderson,
Cindy and husband Jon Bethune, and Michelle and husband Clint Meyer,
nine great-grandchildren; Savannah and Shelby McBride, Joe and David
Beeson, Will Anderson, Cora Anderson, Emily and Andrew Bethune, and
Gabrielle Meyer, two sisters-in-law; Gladys Kas of Sutherland, and
Eleanor Anderson of Alta, nieces and nephews, and other relatives and
friends.
