Memorial services
for Oswald Andersen, 92, of Aurelia, will be 11:00 A.M. Friday,
September 10, 2004, at the First United Methodist Church in Aurelia,
with Pastor Jack Weida officiating. Visitation will be at the church
prior to the service beginning at 10:00 A.M. Redig Funeral Home in
Aurelia is in charge of the arrangements. A memorial fund has been
established.
Oswald became a
resident of the Cherokee Villa in July, and died Thursday, September 2,
2004, at the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee.
Oswald Neil
Andersen was born on August 29, 1912, the son of Otto and Agnes (Miller)
Andersen near Linn Grove, Iowa. He attended Fairview School. Oswald
worked in a bakery in Chicago for eight months, then came back to work
with a carpenter. On June 5, 1940, Oswald married Vera Caroline
Nordstrom at the Methodist Church in Aurelia. In 1940 they began
farming west of Aurelia, they then moved to a farm east of Alta, where
they would remain for seven years until returning to Aurelia in 1950.
Oswald was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Knights
of Pythius.
Preceding Oswald in
death were his parents, his wife Vera on January 26, 2001, three
sisters, Severn Chivers, Viola Meseck, and Asther Fischer, nine
brothers, Quentin, Lennart, Lester, Leslie, Clarence, Arol, Kermit,
Gladwyn, and Marvin Andersen, and son-in-law Charles Haskins.
Survivors include one son, Orlyn and
his wife Joan Andersen of Aurelia, two daughters, Carolyn and her
husband Richard Mefferd of Gilmore City, IA, and Marilyn Haskins of
Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, nine grandchildren, Jamie Mefferd, Troy and
his wife Holly Mefferd, Ryan Mefferd, Aaron Mefferd, Heather Andersen,
Owen Andersen, Hilary Andersen, Lindsey Haskins and Kylie Haskins. Also
surviving are one brother, Vincent and his wife Mary Andersen of
Richmond, CA, three sisters, Vivian Waples of LaMirada, CA, Carla Fuller
of Danville, CA, and Margie Robinson of Marengo, IA, three
brothers-in-law, Herman Fischer of San Francisco, CA, and Vincent Becker
and Gene Elder both of Cherokee, four sisters-in-law, Eunice Andersen of
Aurelia, Minnie Andersen of Alta, Cathy Andersen of Superior, WI, and
Gloria Andersen of Alexandra, VI, and a host of nieces and nephews and
other relatives and friends.
