RICK A. HILBERT

Funeral services for Rick A. Hilbert, 58, of Manchester, Iowa, will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Manchester. There will be a 4:30 p.m. graveside service at the Storm Lake Cemetery, Storm Lake, IA. Visitation will be Monday from 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home in Manchester. The Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia is in charge of local arrangements.

Rick died Sunday morning, November 11, 2007 at the Regional Medical Center in Manchester following a sudden illness

Rick Alan Hilbert was born February 8, 1949 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Harry and Margueritte (Haight) Hilbert. He graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1967. Rick majored in English and Driver’s Education at the University of Northern Iowa, graduating in 1971. On August 14, 1971 Rick was united in marriage to Marcia Redig in Storm Lake. Rick taught six years in Little Rock, Iowa and seven years in Sibley, Iowa while earning his Masters Degree in Education Administration from the University of South Dakota, Vermillion. He then became principal in Marcus, Iowa for four years and Centerville for nine years. During this time, Rick received his superintendent degree from Drake University in Des Moines. Rick was the superintendent at Westwood School District in Sloan, before moving to Manchester in June of 2001 to become the superintendent of the West Delaware County Community School District.

Rick was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Manchester, the Manchester Rotary Club, and Walt Whitman Club. He served as past-president of the Centerville Rotary Club. Rick collected Coke memorabilia, beer bottles and cans, and shot glasses from places he visited. He also was an avid photographer.

Preceding Rick in death were his parents.

Survivors include his wife Marcia Hilbert of Manchester; two daughters, Amy and her husband Brad Pohlman of Marshalltown, IA, and Sarah Hilbert of St. Paul, MN; two brothers, Bill and his wife Jean Hilbert Waverly and Don and his wife Teresa Hilbert of Ankeny; one sister, Karen and her husband Chuck Orvis of Lawler, IA; father-in-law and mother-in-law Melvin and Betty Redig of Storm Lake, two brothers-in-law, Randy Redig of Newell and Roger and his wife Pat Redig of Aurelia, and many nieces and nephews.
