ROGER A. FRY

Funeral services for Roger Fry, 59, of rural Alta, will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, March 8, 2007, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta, with Pastor Kathy Wicks officiating.  A 3:00 P.M. service officiated by Pastor Dale Jensen and Pastor Harold Heinzig at Immanuel Lutheran Church south of Gruver, IA, will be followed by burial in the High Lake Cemetery, rural Wallingford.  Visitation will be Wednesday from 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00, at the Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia.  

Roger died Sunday, March 4, 2007, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, of a sudden heart attack.

Roger Alan Fry was born on October 27, 1947, the son of Ray A. and Pearl (Aanonson) Fry.  Roger graduated from the Ringsted Community High School in 1965.  He attended Iowa Lakes Community College for one year.  On July 21, 1979 Roger married Susan Peiffer at the Estherville Lutheran Church in Estherville, IA.  Roger farmed his entire working life, renting his first farm ground in 1961.  He raised both hogs and cattle for many years in Emmet County prior to moving to the Storm Lake area. Roger also worked on a seasonal basis for PSA north of Alta.   He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta.  He was a past member of the Estherville Elks Lodge, and was a long-time 4H member and showed cattle at the county fair for many years.  Roger enjoyed searching for and researching antiques, he was a great student of all types of history, and enjoyed the outdoors – as an active hunter as a young man and as an observer of wildlife in later years. He was a cowboy at heart.

Preceding Roger in death was his father Ray, and one sister-in-law, Ann Peiffer Genkinger.

Survivors include his wife Susan of Alta, his mother Pearl Fry of Gruver, IA, one sister, Joleen and her husband Frank Schieffer of Omaha, NE, and one brother, Marlyn and his wife Patty Fry of Estherville. Also surviving are brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; Karen and husband Bill Strawn, Jay and wife Connie Peiffer, Calvin and wife Vickie Genkinger, Meri and husband Jeff Peterson, Lisa and husband Chris Cowan, and Jayne and husband Larry Orris, nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
