ROSENA PINGEL
Funeral services for Rosena Pingel, 102, of
Aurelia, will be 10:00 Saturday, November 22, 2008, at the St. Paul
Lutheran Church in Aurelia with Pastor Larry Lemke officiating. Burial
will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Aurelia. Visitation
will be Friday at the church from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., with the
family being present from 6:00 to 8:00. The Redig Funeral Home in
Aurelia is in charge of arrangements.
Rosena Caroline Frederiche Roggow was born
on November 3, 1906, the daughter of Henry William and Louise (Golnitz)
Roggow, near Peterson, Iowa. Rosena attended the Brooke Consolidated
School. On March 7, 1933 Rosena married Harry William Edward Pingel.
They farmed in the Aurelia area until moving into town on December 1,
1970.
Rosena was a member of ACC, Senior Citizens
and the Senior Dance Club. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran
Church where she was baptized, confirmed, married, taught Sunday school
for many years, and was a member of the Ladies Aide until the church
closed. She then became a member of St. John’s Lutheran at Hanover where
she was a member of the Ladies Aide. After Rosena entered Sunset Knoll
Retirement Home on November 3, 2000, she transferred her membership to
St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aurelia. Rosena enjoyed music, and had
played the violin, organ, and piano, and before she was married she was
a member of the Cherokee Symphony. She also enjoyed doing crossword
puzzles.
Rosena died Monday, November 17, 2008, at
the Sunset Knoll Nursing and Rehab Center in Aurelia.
Preceding Rosena in death were her parents,
her husband Harry on December 24, 1991, one daughter, LaVonne Smith on
July 10, 1992, her twin sister at birth, and two sisters, Irene Sump and
Erna Stief.
Survivors include five sons and their wives,
Donald and Janice Pingel of Cherokee, Myron and Joyce Pingel of
Cherokee, Robert and Judith Pingel of Underwood, IA, Dr. Dean and Linda
Pingel of Spencer, and Ivan and Connie Pingel of Latimer, one
son-in-law, Jon and his wife LuAnn Smith of Aurelia, 16 grandchildren,
33 great-grandchildren, one sister, Aleda Stief of Aurelia, nieces and
nephews and other relatives and friends.
