VELMA BERRY
Funeral services for Velma M. Berry, 87, of
Aurelia, will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, October 9, 2009, at the St. Paul
Lutheran Church in Aurelia, with Pastor Larry Lemke officiating. Burial
will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, rural Aurelia. Visitation will be
Tuesday from 2:00 P.M. till 8:00 P.M., with the family present from 6:00
to 8:00, at the Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia.
Velma died Tuesday, October 6, 2009, at the
Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee, Iowa. She had been a
resident of the Sunset Knoll Care and Rehab Center in Aurelia since
February of 2009.
Velma Mae Busch was born May 20, 1922, the
daughter of William and Margaret (Clausen) Busch in Sac Township, Lake
View, Iowa. She graduated from the 8th grade in country
school near Lake View. From 1941 – 1945, during World War II, she worked
in an airplane manufacturing factory in San Francisco, CA. After her
return to Iowa she worked at Farm Mutual Dwelling Insurance Company in
Des Moines in the accounting department from 1945 – 1949. On February
14, 1949, Velma married Francis Lee Berry at the Lutheran Church in Sac
City, IA. They moved to Aurelia in 1968.
Velma served the Ladies Aid, LWML, and was
also a Sunday school and confirmation class teacher for approximately
ten years. She sold Avon for 15 years, along with caring for her husband
and children. She was also a member of a square dance club for several
years. She always loved a good game of cards, be it Bridge, Pinochle, or
Skipbo. She enjoyed visiting her children and grandchildren.
Preceding Velma in death were her parents,
her husband Francis on May 25, 2009, two sisters, Irene Crippen and
Mildred Johnson, and one brother, Marvin Busch.
Survivors include her children, Brent and
his wife Nancy Berry of Danbury, IA, Susan and her husband Rob Scott of
Morrison, IL, five grandchildren, Jamie, Justin, and Kelli Dean, and
Ryan and Jessica Scott, one brother, Don and his wife Charlotte Busch of
Lake View, and several nieces and nephews.
